Why the Camino Memory Project — For generations, the Camino has produced an extraordinary heritage of photographs, films, diaries, letters, recordings and personal testimonies. Much of it is now scattered across homes, personal archives, old tapes, hard drives and phones. The project was created to bring these memories together and preserve them.
A living archive of the Camino — Not simply a collection, but an international archive that allows us to experience the Camino through the eyes of those who walked it, across different decades, countries and generations.
From the archive to a film — This is where we introduce Every Step, the feature documentary being created from this extraordinary collective memory. Selected contributions may become part of the film. This gives people another reason to participate, without making the archive feel as though it exists only for the documentary.
For future generations — The larger cultural purpose: preserving the human memory of the Camino so that it can remain accessible to future generations, researchers and cultural institutions.
